With over 10 years experience in the fashion industry Grace Duignan-Pearson, The Head Designer of ODE has given us a little taste and behind the scenes of her new creation ODE.
What does ODE stand for?
ODE stands for Off Duty Essentials - a pared back approach to dressing that takes us through all the activities that fill our day.
I like that it has a double meaning, it’s also an ode to her - timeless femininity is the essence of the ODE DNA.
What was the inspiration behind ODE?
ODE is inspired by the modern woman, and how she defines herself - whether that’s through strength, playfulness, or tenderness - we aim to provide her with a wardrobe that effortlessly works with her ‘off duty’ lifestyle.
How would you describe the overall aesthetic and style of the brand?
With the focus on ‘off duty’ dressing, we wanted ODE to encapsulate the considered confidence and easy-going approach to dressing that Australia is known for.
At ODE we’re all about offering premium quality in minimalist silhouettes that are effortlessly wearable: so that meant sourcing premium, functionalist fabrics that have an incredible look and hand-feel. We took a microscope to every component, working with our supply base to develop our own exclusive ODE yardage stripes, branded buttons, embroideries, and trims.
Where did the design process begin? Where do find inspiration for design?
We came up with the concept for ODE about a year ago, and I started designing the first collection after a trip to Noosa in January.
I’m always inspired when I travel and get to explore new places, last year I also had the great fortune of visiting Europe and Bali - disconnecting by soaking up the colours, landscape and culture is so inspiring!
What sets ODE apart from other brands?
I think one of the things that sets ODE apart, is that we intentionally set out to deliver fashion pieces that can effortlessly be styled back with activewear and sneakers.
It’s all about complimenting an athleisure wardrobe with curated foundational pieces that last for seasons to come.
How would you describe the first collection?
The first collection really encapsulates what ODE stands for: easy to wear wardrobe staples for the modern woman.
Drop 1 is inspired by the evocative first days of spring, when the temperature starts to rise, and we get to spend more time outdoors. Time spent mooching around Europe informed the al fresco palette of neutrals with spring pops of cornflower and jade.
Do you have favourite piece from the collection?
I’m so glad it’s getting warmer, because I am loving wearing the Ray Sleeveless Blazer with the matching shorts in wheat. I lived in waistcoats last summer, and this Blazer is a simple, yet refined update. I’ll be wearing it with Adidas sambas for day, and then switch to ballet flats for dinners and drinks in the evening.
